Energy Conservation:
A Global Concern
Aggie
International Ambassadors will be hosting a spring 2008
Forum titled Energy Conservation: A Global Concern.
World energy consumption is expected to increase 40% to
50% by the year 2010, and the global mix of fuels such
as renewables (18%), nuclear (4%), and fossil (78%) are
projected to remain substantially the same as today;
thus global carbon dioxide emissions would also increase
50% to 60% (SEI 2004). Our intentions are to address the
critical issues at hand in regards to worldwide
dependencies and advances in energy conservation and
more specifically, its effects in our region of Texas.
The forum will take place Friday April 25th, 2008 from
7pm-9pm in the Elizabeth B. and Joseph D. Ray
Auditorium of Wehner Building.
Our confirmed guest
speakers include Congressman Joe Barton, Mr. Rob Porras
Reliant Energy Director of Power House Programs, TAMU ESL Director Dr. David E. Claridge,
Mr. Jim Riley Director of Utilities for TAMU Energy
Conservation Committee, U-Picket
founders Steven Richer and Nick Kennedy, and Petroleum
Engineering Professor Christine Ehlig-Economides.
The objective of the forum is to heighten the overall
student body and general public’s awareness on the
issues of energy conservation and what they can do to
better sustain the longevity of world wide energy. |
